In Conversation: With Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, GLA
Chair – Andrew Taylor, Group Planning Director – Vistry Group
In May, Sadiq Kahn won a historic third term as Mayor of London on a manifesto that placed a renewed emphasis on tackling the housing crisis. In addition to announcing fresh delivery mechanisms, such as the introduction of Land Assembly Zones and new Mayoral Development Corporations “to boost overall housing supply and drive regeneration” the Mayor also committed to delivering 40,000 new council homes by the end of the decade.
We are delighted to be joined by Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, to unpack the implications of these policy commitments for planning and housing practitioners.
Having been appointed to his current role in 2020, Mr Copley is the key figure in overseeing the Mayor’s two affordable homes programmes, including the first-ever City Hall initiative dedicated to council homebuilding.
Prior to this he was a London Assembly Member for eight years, during which time he served as Chair of the Assembly’s housing committee.
Mr Copley will be invited to make an opening statement of approximately ten minutes followed by questions from the Chair and from the floor.
